Vietnam Sinks to 174th in Press Freedom Index, Dead Last in Southeast Asia

Vietnam dropped one spot to 174th globally in the 2026 Reporters Without Borders index, retaining its rank as the least free press environment in Southeast Asia, as a 2025 amendment to the country's Press Law now formally empowers police to compel journalists to reveal sources in criminal probes.
