India Sinks to 157th in Global Press Freedom Rankings

India dropped six places to a historic low of 157th out of 180 countries on RSF's 2026 World Press Freedom Index, dragged down by escalating violence against journalists, misuse of anti-terror laws to target reporters, government advertising leverage over newsrooms, and severe harassment of those covering Kashmir.
