Unconditional access to information is a basic human right.

We are here to help brave dissidents refute the lies of their despotic leaders. Our technology makes it possible to bypass the blockades set up by autocratic regimes and to once again view and share all the content, from around the globe.

“Samizdat Online uses cutting-edge digital tools to break through Putin's digital iron curtain and learn the truth about Russia's war of aggression.

These tools are being used to arm common people who may not have access to VPNs or other sophisticated technologies with the truth, the most powerful weapon there is.”

GARRY KASPAROV — RDI
Former Chess Grandmaster, Staunch Putin critic and President of Renew Democracy Initiative

What we do

During the Soviet era, Samizdat was how the citizens shared news and literature that was not approved by the State amongst themselves, as they tried to stay connected to the world outside their borders.

Our service is symbolically evocative of the same spirit of citizen engagement and info sharing that the Samizdat of the 70s gave rise to.

Decades later, years of living under Vladimir Putin’s oppressive regime are coming to a devastating head. We believe that in Russia and across the globe, citizens that are oppressed by their authoritarian regimes have a right to know and have access to all independeant news sources.

Decades of being exposed to relentless propaganda has resulted in millions believing the incessant lies of various autocratic State medias.', 'When Putin illegally attacked Ukraine on February 24th, 2022, he also ordered his security services (named the Roskomnadzor) to further block access to many sources of information that contradict the lies published in Russia’s state media.

How it works

We are here to help brave dissidents refute the lies of their despotic leaders. Our technology makes it possible to bypass the blockades set up by autocratic regimes and to once again view and share all the content, from around the globe, that leaders like Vladimir Putin would prefer their citizens not have access to.

Our team

Yevgeny and Michael started this project with the singular goal of gathering all the voices of the world that suffer under autocratic repression and reuniting those voices with their audiences.
Since launching in June of 2022, they have been joined by a cadre of exceptionally talented and motivated people and the team is growing every day as our reach widens across cultural and national boundaries.

The advisors guiding our mission to succeed

There are many activists who reject their government’s propaganda and are committed to bringing the truth to their compatriots. They take huge risks breaking and sharing real news stories; many of them have had no choice but to flea their native countries and now report in exile. These journalists have a voice and a following, and communicate through a variety of blogs, newsletters or products like Telegram.

Samizdat Online stands behind these courageous individuals. We firmly believe it’s their voices that stand the best chance of making real and lasting impact. Our technology empowers these journalists to get accurate information to the people of the world.

If these oppressive regimes feel that it is imperative to their success to block their citizens from having access to the truth, then we believe it’s critical to give those citizens precisely that access and let them judge for themselves if their leaders are truly acting in their best interests.

Funding

We need your help to make this game of Whack-a-Mole as hard for Russia’s agents of deception to beat as possible.

Aside from the expense of running the many servers necessary to keep one step ahead of the propaganda operatives, we have a staff of engineers collaborating from Russia, Ukraine, and the West, as well as content editors, translators, and other essential team members that all help us realize Samizdat Online’s mission.
